As part of the CStarsky Community Special Events, we are pleased to announce our FREE Creative Writing Virtual Summer Camp for students entering grades 4-7 in the fall. Two summer sessions are offered (Early Summer and Late Summer). Each session will include three 2-hour meetings.
Topics will vary on days 1-3 of each session (i.e., Early Summer and Late Summer), so if you sign up for all three days within one session you will not see significant overlap. However, be aware that the Late Summer Writing Camp will be a repeat of the Early Summer Writing Camp.

Each creative writing session will include a focus on identifying, and writing for, the target audience. Sessions will focus on establishing credibility on the subject with the audience. The importance of building imagery in all types of writing will also be stressed.
Our creative writing sessions will focus on fictional stories created from the imagination of participants.
During the nonfiction session students will write stories based on facts, real events, and actual people. Nonfiction is designed to inform, teach, or document reality.

Examples of persuasive writing include stories that can be used in advertising, speeches, or reviews (e.g., books, movies). Participants will be provided with guidance about how to set up a persuasive argument.
Journaling sessions will focus on not just documenting events but also reflecting on the writers’ reaction to the events. We will discuss using techniques like recording daily events, thank you notes, or stream-of-consciousness writing.
