CStarsky Community Virtual Special Events are opportunities for students to have fun and build their skills. Prior participation in CStarsky tutoring or training is not required. Registration is free; however, all participants in CStarsky Community Virtual Special Events must register using the buttons below the events.

A variety of special events will be offered over time, therefore, this page will be updated monthly to show current events. All events will be 60-90 minutes using either Zoom or GoogleMeet unless otherwise stated. Links to events will be emailed to registered participants. If there are specific types of activities you would like us to offer, or you have specific scheduling requirements, please Contact Us.

Free Trial Tutoring Session for New Customers

Are you considering a virtual tutoring package but just not sure you want to make the investment? CStarsky Lifelong Learning is offering a free one hour session to new clients.

For adults, your tutor will spend the hour asking about your goals and do an informal assessment of your current knowledge, skills, and abilities. She will also give you information and exercises to get started.

For children, the tutor will spend 30 minutes talking with a parent(s) to learn about parent expectations and the student's interests and skills. This will be followed by a 30 minute session with the child.

Making Up Stories!

Grades 4-7

The five critical elements of a good story are:

Characters
Setting
Plot
Drama/Conflict
Resolution

We will work together, and separately, to write creative short stories.

Word Games for Grades 3-5

Word games can be used to improve vocabulary, phonics, spelling, and writing skills.

Examples of games:

Taking turns naming words that start with the same letter the previous word ended with
Naming at least two words that sound a like but are spelled differently
Naming synonyms to given words
Sounding out and pronouncing difficult words
Identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives
Writing a sentence that contains at least 5, 7, or 10 words
Writing a sentence that includes at least one word that a previous student used in a sentence

ESOL Conversation Group

This "Conversation Hour" is for people learning English as a second language that would like to practice speaking English in a welcoming environment. This is a very informal session.

We will provide:

Tips and tricks that may help you speak English with an American accent
Resources with brief news articles that you can use to practice pronunciation and reading.
